Internet Censorship Essay - Internet Spamming and Censorship

Internet Spamming and Censorship      Ã‚  Ã‚   Not long ago, a manager of a giant Texas-based company wanted to sell his boat. In the old days, he would have posted a notice and a snapshot on the bulletin board in the employee lounge. This being the Nineties, he e-mailed everyone in the company a description of his boat's features and attached, of course, a few full-color images of the boat. As a result, his company's e-mail network crashed.    Incidents like this occur because massive e-mailings, especially with high-quality graphics, employ more bandwidth than the network allows. The fact is that a 15-second transmission of a high-quality video on the web (the multimedia aspect of the Internet) takes as much bandwidth as it would take to transmit the text of War and Peace.    The boat-marketing disaster is an example of what is known as internal spamming. The etymology of this new verb, to spam, is unclear. Most experts say its namesake is the canned lunchmeat. Others attribute it to the Monty Python routine about mindless offerings. In either case, spamming is the act of sending unsolicited, mass-distributed junk e-mail.    Spamming has arisen spontaneously as an outgrowth of the fact that transmission costs on the web have been reduced to almost zero. When spammers hit users with thousands of copies of the same message, havoc is wreaked. When massive e-mailing clogs users' incoming mail, the affected ones are not only the targeted users but also everyone else on their network. Frequent delays can cause deadlines to be missed, and businesses to go under.    Within an organization, abuse of technology is controllable by establishing explicit company policy and enforcing it with strict sanctions. How... ...a) introduced a complex bill called The Unsolicited Commercial E-mail Choice Act, and Rep. Chris Smith (R., N.J.) has proposed a simple amendment to the existing law pertaining to junk faxes. The problem is that legislation only addresses the symptoms; it does not cure the disease. The observance of rules of conduct is effective only when there is common agreement in a society.    The Internet business has the unique characteristic of having no resource monopoly power; hence, it poses no threat to users' choices and freedom. Any attempt to regulate the Internet market through censorship of its pornographic tendencies will be met with considerable anti-christian sentiment, and it faces an uphill fight.    WORKS CITED: "C.N. A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Book or Movie Essay

Personally, I prefer the original play of â€Å"A Midsummer Night’s Dream† only slightly more than the film adaption that was recreated in the late 1990’s. Not only had William Shakespeare managed to fully grasp the meaning of true love, but had also comprehended the dark times that came alongside such an influential and overpowering emotion. Although the movie had effectively and humorously portrayed the problems that were brewing amongst the fairies, workers, and lovers, it still missed the raw, poetic depth that the play embodied. Also, the film had strayed from the original story line more times than was acceptable. For example, the play was set in the 1500’s, which was long before the time of bicycles and flashlights that the movie had put as a frequent prop. Similarly, Bottom was never mentioned to have a significant other, though in the movie he was wedded. This only presents his character even more filthy and repulsive then would have been already thought with his enflamed ego and belligerent attitude, as he cheats on his wife for a woman he just met. Yet, the most significant mistake was with the little Indian boy. The plot of the play was built upon the idea of Titania surrendering the boy in her spell-induced state to her selfish husband, Oberon. In the movie, he begins with the same intentions, albeit all mention of the Indian boy is dropped after the initial confrontation and is never resolved, which is clearly illogical as it is the whole ordeal of the play since the very beginning. In conclusion, while the film had the look and undeveloped sense of what was meant to be presented, it doesn’t capture the heart as enchantingly and adeptly as the original screenplay did.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Conan O Brien - 1235 Words

For the last 20 years, literally my entire adult life, I ve been a diehard fan of late night talk show host Conan O Brien. Not only did I watch the various iterations of his show throughout the years from Late Night, The Tonight Show, to CONAN religiously for most of that time, but I ve ventured across the country to see him live several times. In fact, just last year, I achieved one of my goals of personally meeting Conan and getting a picture with him. It happened after attending one of his tapings during a week of shows at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. I ve admired Conan for his humor, intelligence, and inspiring words of wisdom he s given over the years (his commencement speeches at Harvard and Dartmouth are indicative of†¦show more content†¦Israeli appropriation of Arab food is nothing new. Things got a whole lot worse from there. A couple of days later, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted a short video of him hosting Conan in Jerusalem. There are no words to describe the disappointment I felt when I saw that. It was bad enough Conan went to Israel and violated the BDS call, but to take company with a man who imposes an apartheid regime on Palestinians and who should be tried for war crimes was simply inexcusable. The day after, Conan made a token visit to Bethlehem and spent time with children from the Aida Refugee Camp. Commendable, but ironic given that he had just been the guest of Netanyahu who d prefer to have Palestinians stay in refugee camps and live without equal rights as Jewish Israelis. To add salt to the wound, Conan later met with female soldiers from the Karkl Battalion in the Israeli army (IDF). My jaw dropped. He was straight up participating in Israeli propaganda and the IDF was more than happy to tweet about it. I couldn t believe it. As Benjamin Norton tweeted in reply to the IDF s tweet, Conan O Brien doing PR with an army that kills Palestinians and illegally occupies and colonizes their land. Indeed, hanging out with soldiers who enforce apartheid and carry out assaults on an oppressed civilization population is reprehensible. Conan shouldn t have met and dined with Netanyahu nor cavorted
