Freud Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Freud - Essay Example It is worthy, first, to understand the need for civilization and its importance in qualitative measures and quantitative measures. Civilizations were established to improve modes of relationships among human beings. This was because, in the prehistoric times, an action of an individual was guided more by his instincts and wishes. Apart from that, civilization was meant to improve material prosperity of individuals. This was obtainable through improvement of science and technology, which in turn increased their economic productivity. Freud argues that the objective of such changes was due to the inherent human trait of search for happiness. The search for happiness is achieved by what he describes as utility and yields of pleasure (Freud 41). However, he states that such an effort is always a futility, as an increase in happiness is never achieved. Civilization is thus not responsible for human happiness. Friedman’s main argument primarily focuses in religion. He describes religion as an imposed delusional feeling that seeks to detach individuals from reality. This feeling, however, cannot be depicted scientifically. It operates in the idea that suffering of the human community can only be alleviated by a trust to an external source of help. In trying to achieve this, individuals escape the reality of their lives. The problem of religion in this case is that it imposes only one way of attainment of happiness. In reality, ways of attaining satisfaction should be many and, thus, the individual is tied to his misery if that one way fails (Freud 32). Second, Friedman also discusses art as a source of unhappiness among individuals. Art’s affectivity relies on the imagination of creative people who release their pieces of work for consumption by these individuals. Through art, individuals try to master reality by creating images of how it

Research Methods and Stats for Finance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Research Methods and Stats for Finance - Essay Example ore, the appropriate and integrative application of "Software as electronic commerce platform for manufacturers and wholesale distributors" with a focus on education and implementation of supply chain management software could have a significant impact on the manner that supply chains function within the companies (Karpinski p 9 1999). Business process re-engineering (BPR) is applied at the local, managerial, and corporate levels of the business. This concept has a significant impact on the various phases of the business process, where the changes that occur can be related to the flow of information and products (Desel & Erwin, 2000). BPR is used in SCM to renovate the managed and integrated processes that create a capable and viable business environment (Chan and Qi 2003). The crucial tenants of BPR is that it reduces tension between inter-organisational departments and business partners, particularly when the there is friction within the SC process (McCormack & Johnson, 2000). Business process re-engineering, specifically related to the main focus of technology and communication in supply chain management includes: (1)Further integration of activities between suppliers and customers across the entire supply chain;(2) on-going changes in supply chain needs and required flexibility from IT; (3) more mass customization of products and services leading to increasing assortments while decreasing cycle times and inventories; (4) the locus of the driver’s seat of the entire supply chain and (5) supply chains consisting of several independent enterprises (Akkermans et al p 284 2003). The benefits of using the BPR concept to promote SCM needs are that it connects information management (McCormack & Johnson, 2000); promotes cost saving activities through efficiency and communication (Horvath, 2001), and reduces financial risk in unsuccessful supply chains (Cross 2000). This project is to examine management logistics in supply chain management as it relates to the

Internet Censorship Essay - Internet Spamming and Censorship

Internet Spamming and Censorship      Ã‚  Ã‚   Not long ago, a manager of a giant Texas-based company wanted to sell his boat. In the old days, he would have posted a notice and a snapshot on the bulletin board in the employee lounge. This being the Nineties, he e-mailed everyone in the company a description of his boat's features and attached, of course, a few full-color images of the boat. As a result, his company's e-mail network crashed.    Incidents like this occur because massive e-mailings, especially with high-quality graphics, employ more bandwidth than the network allows. The fact is that a 15-second transmission of a high-quality video on the web (the multimedia aspect of the Internet) takes as much bandwidth as it would take to transmit the text of War and Peace.    The boat-marketing disaster is an example of what is known as internal spamming. The etymology of this new verb, to spam, is unclear. Most experts say its namesake is the canned lunchmeat. Others attribute it to the Monty Python routine about mindless offerings. In either case, spamming is the act of sending unsolicited, mass-distributed junk e-mail.    Spamming has arisen spontaneously as an outgrowth of the fact that transmission costs on the web have been reduced to almost zero. When spammers hit users with thousands of copies of the same message, havoc is wreaked. When massive e-mailing clogs users' incoming mail, the affected ones are not only the targeted users but also everyone else on their network. Frequent delays can cause deadlines to be missed, and businesses to go under.    Within an organization, abuse of technology is controllable by establishing explicit company policy and enforcing it with strict sanctions. How... ...a) introduced a complex bill called The Unsolicited Commercial E-mail Choice Act, and Rep. Chris Smith (R., N.J.) has proposed a simple amendment to the existing law pertaining to junk faxes. The problem is that legislation only addresses the symptoms; it does not cure the disease. The observance of rules of conduct is effective only when there is common agreement in a society.    The Internet business has the unique characteristic of having no resource monopoly power; hence, it poses no threat to users' choices and freedom. Any attempt to regulate the Internet market through censorship of its pornographic tendencies will be met with considerable anti-christian sentiment, and it faces an uphill fight.    WORKS CITED: "C.N. A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Book or Movie Essay

Personally, I prefer the original play of â€Å"A Midsummer Night’s Dream† only slightly more than the film adaption that was recreated in the late 1990’s. Not only had William Shakespeare managed to fully grasp the meaning of true love, but had also comprehended the dark times that came alongside such an influential and overpowering emotion. Although the movie had effectively and humorously portrayed the problems that were brewing amongst the fairies, workers, and lovers, it still missed the raw, poetic depth that the play embodied. Also, the film had strayed from the original story line more times than was acceptable. For example, the play was set in the 1500’s, which was long before the time of bicycles and flashlights that the movie had put as a frequent prop. Similarly, Bottom was never mentioned to have a significant other, though in the movie he was wedded. This only presents his character even more filthy and repulsive then would have been already thought with his enflamed ego and belligerent attitude, as he cheats on his wife for a woman he just met. Yet, the most significant mistake was with the little Indian boy. The plot of the play was built upon the idea of Titania surrendering the boy in her spell-induced state to her selfish husband, Oberon. In the movie, he begins with the same intentions, albeit all mention of the Indian boy is dropped after the initial confrontation and is never resolved, which is clearly illogical as it is the whole ordeal of the play since the very beginning. In conclusion, while the film had the look and undeveloped sense of what was meant to be presented, it doesn’t capture the heart as enchantingly and adeptly as the original screenplay did.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Conan O Brien - 1235 Words

For the last 20 years, literally my entire adult life, I ve been a diehard fan of late night talk show host Conan O Brien. Not only did I watch the various iterations of his show throughout the years from Late Night, The Tonight Show, to CONAN religiously for most of that time, but I ve ventured across the country to see him live several times. In fact, just last year, I achieved one of my goals of personally meeting Conan and getting a picture with him. It happened after attending one of his tapings during a week of shows at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. I ve admired Conan for his humor, intelligence, and inspiring words of wisdom he s given over the years (his commencement speeches at Harvard and Dartmouth are indicative of†¦show more content†¦Israeli appropriation of Arab food is nothing new. Things got a whole lot worse from there. A couple of days later, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted a short video of him hosting Conan in Jerusalem. There are no words to describe the disappointment I felt when I saw that. It was bad enough Conan went to Israel and violated the BDS call, but to take company with a man who imposes an apartheid regime on Palestinians and who should be tried for war crimes was simply inexcusable. The day after, Conan made a token visit to Bethlehem and spent time with children from the Aida Refugee Camp. Commendable, but ironic given that he had just been the guest of Netanyahu who d prefer to have Palestinians stay in refugee camps and live without equal rights as Jewish Israelis. To add salt to the wound, Conan later met with female soldiers from the Karkl Battalion in the Israeli army (IDF). My jaw dropped. He was straight up participating in Israeli propaganda and the IDF was more than happy to tweet about it. I couldn t believe it. As Benjamin Norton tweeted in reply to the IDF s tweet, Conan O Brien doing PR with an army that kills Palestinians and illegally occupies and colonizes their land. Indeed, hanging out with soldiers who enforce apartheid and carry out assaults on an oppressed civilization population is reprehensible. Conan shouldn t have met and dined with Netanyahu nor cavorted

Invention Funding How Inventors Raise Money

Before you get to market and sell your  new invention, youll likely need to raise some capital in order to fund the production, packaging, storage, shipment, and marketing costs for your product, which you can do through a variety of means including acquiring investors, taking out business loans, or applying to governmental and grant programs.   Although you can make a personal investment on your own invention, its often difficult to earn enough money to get a product off the ground—especially since most people find it hard to even cover base living expenses—so its imperative that you are able to seek financial help from investors, loans, grants, and governmental innovation programs. New inventors hoping to acquire lucrative business partnerships should always conduct themselves in an appropriate businesslike manner—an e-mail inquiry asking for financial support penned in an informal manner (full of grammar and spelling errors, etc.) will likely yield no response, but a professional e-mail, letter, or phone call will likely at least get a response. For more help getting your invention off the ground, you could also join a  local inventors  group to learn from those in your area who have already successfully created, marketed, and sold their own inventions—after raising money, finding backers, and getting a  patent  themselves. Find Grants, Loans, and Government Programs Many branches of the government give grants and loans to fund research and the development of inventions; however, these grants are often very specific as to what type of funding is given and what inventions can apply for federal aid. For example, the U.S. Department of Energy offers grants for the development of inventions that benefit the environment or can save energy while the U.S. Department of Small Business offers small business loans to get new companies off the ground. In either case, getting a grant or loan will require footwork, research, and a lengthy application process on your part. Additionally, you could apply for several  student innovation programs  and competitions where students can win prizes or a scholarship to pursue their inventions. There is even special  Canadian invention funding  available, which provides research money, grants, awards, venture capital, support groups, and Canadian government patent offices specifically geared toward Canadian citizens (and residents). Find an Investor: Venture Capital and Angel Investors Venture capital or VC is funding invested,  or available for investment, in an enterprise such as bringing an invention  that can be profitable (along with the possibility of loss) to an investor and the marketplace. Traditionally, venture capital is part of the second or third stage of financing for a business startup, which starts with the entrepreneur (inventor) putting their own available funding into a shoestring operation. Becoming an entrepreneur  is quite an undertaking as youll need to manufacture, market, advertise and distribute your own invention or  intellectual property. During the initial stage of financing, youll need to draft a  business plan  and invest your own capital into the product, then pitch your idea to the venture capitalists or angel investors who might want to invest. An angel investor or venture capitalist may be convinced to contribute funding. Generally, an angel investor is someone with spare funds that have some personal (family) or industry-related interest. Angel investors are sometimes said to invest emotional money, while venture capitalists are said to invest logical money—both are willing to help give the new enterprise a more solid footing. Once you secure financing, you will likely have to report back to these investors throughout the fiscal quarter and year to update your backers on how well their investment is doing. Although most small businesses are expected to lose money in the first one to five years, youll want to remain professional and positive (and realistic) about your earnings projections to keep your investors happy.

Homelessness The Homeless People Essay - 988 Words

Homelessness can be a temporary condition that people fall into in the United States when they cannot afford to pay for a place to live, or when their current home is unsafe or unstable. The estimated amount of homeless people in the United States is about 3 million. (National Alliance to end Homeless) In 2014, there are approximately 578,424 people in a single night that experience being homeless. In my opinion, the United States should have more shelters to help the homeless people instead of spending money on unnecessary things. The three main people groups that are affected by the homelessness are the unemployed, pregnant teens, and veterans. Homelessness affects the unemployment in several ways.
